"FEED AND HOLD LIVE GATORS"

Yup, that's the actual signage at Conga River Golf in Daytona Beach, Florida.

For $12.99 Congo River boasts "18 holds of award-winning miniature golf, an African exploration featuring the signature zebra-striped plane, gemstone mining, arcade room fun, opportunities to feed live gators and more." I think the course generally makes good on all these promises -- and more.

The course is incredibly well-maintained, and the holes are generally well-designed. We played on a fairly sunny afternoon, and the course offered a perfect balance of sun and shade. And while Daytona itself seems to have been hit pretty hard by economic woes, the course's commitment to the safari theme makes for a fun and whimsical escape.

We liked this course so much that I felt the need to tell the owner how much fun we had. When he found out we were from Minnesota he told us we'd "come a long way just for mini golf." I think this should be our new motto for all out-of-town adventures from here on out: we've come a long way for mini golf.

Congo River Golf was one of two courses we played during our brief stint in Daytona Beach -- and definitely the better of the two. The holes are fun and the greens are grand. Oh and did I mention GATORS?!
