The temperature's dropping and even the artificial outdoor turf is no longer green. It can only mean one thing: the indoor mini golf season is upon us.

Course overlooks Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America

For those in the metro area there's no better indoor option than Moose Mountain Adventure Golf at Mall of America. We've been playing this course since the early 2010s and, though there's been little change to the course layout since then, it still proves to be a solid off-season option.

The course premise is simple enough: "an old-time north woods feel," with a course that weaves in and out the cavernous and faux-rocky areas that make up Moose Mountain itself. This plays out particularly well on Hole 2; the hole, which functions as a rudimentary Rube Goldberg machine of sorts, mimics the look and feel of an early coal mining operation that one can easily assume is taking place within the mountain.

What makes Moose Mountain Adventure Golf a lasting favorite is the simple joys it offers. The holes are solidly fun, never too hard, or too easy. The back nine offers some great views of Camp Snoo-- er, I mean, Nickelodeon Universe, which makes for a picturesque evening. And though play is a bit pricey ($10.99+tax), the course is almost always
deserted on weeknights, making it a great option for those of us who prefer to play sans-children.
